Water Management Strategies

Several water management strategies have been recommended by the Llano Estacado Regional Water Planning Group as a way to conserve and preserve our regional water supplies.

The following strategies were recommended for the 2006 Regional Water Plan.

They include:

  • Rainfall enhancement.
  • Brush control. Increased water use efficiency (agriculture/urban).
  • Recovery of capillary water from the Ogallala aquifer.
  • Increasing natural recharge to the Ogallala aquifer.
  • Desalinization of water from deeper aquifers.
  • Interconnecting small towns, cities, and industries in the region to receive ground water from well fields and surface water from area reservoirs.
